On 10 December 2025, the Special Guarantee Fund (SGF) took part in the national celebration of International Human Rights Day in Rusizi District, organized by the Rwanda National Human Rights Commission (NCHR).

The celebration followed a week of community activities promoting human rights awareness, including Inteko z’Abaturage, Umuganda, and football competitions featuring teams from Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts.

SGF was represented by the Acting Director General, Madam Florence Nibakure, who awarded prizes to the top-performing football teams. Muganza Sector received RWF 600,000 as the winning team, while Kagano Sector received RWF 400,000 as the runner-up. SGF’s participation highlighted the Fund’s commitment to supporting communities and promoting civic awareness.

Key speakers, including NCHR Chairperson Madam Umurungi Providence, representatives from the Ministry of Justice, development partners, and the Western Province leadership, emphasized the importance of protecting human rights as a foundation for national stability and social development.

The 2025 celebration was held under the theme “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials”, marking Rwanda’s 26th national commemoration and the 77th international anniversary of International Human Rights Day.
